CASABLANCA
During the Second World War people were prosecuted by Nazis in Casablanca. But their objective was the leader of the resistance, Victor Laszlo, whose unique hope is Rick Blaine, the owner of the 'Rick's Café'. Rick is a man who does not risk his life for anybody, except for Ilsa. Both ex-lovers meet again. Ilsa asks Rick for a visa, with which Laszlo could escape from the country. Rick will have to choose between his happiness or other people lives.
Casablanca began as an average production in the American film industry. But the things did not work this way, and this movie led by the brilliant Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman has gone down in history as an indisputable masterpiece. To explain the virtues of this fantastic film forces us to reveal many things that are better kept in secret for the spectator´s pleasure, but being brief, the most appropriate word to describe this masterpiece is "charismatic". All the scenes, all the dialogs, interpretations and actors, ooze with a captivation that has rarely been equalized in the history of cinema. There is neither missing nor extra scene, there are neither excesses nor mistakes in the matter of the drama, both comedy and adventure, everything appears as harmonic scales, an inalterable order of fabulous sequences. Casablanca has its deserved position as one of the best movies ever filmed, an incomparable and indispensable classic, one of those movies that cannot be watched only once, as after a certain time it will be watched again.
ALL ABOUT EVE (Eva al desnudo)
It is an acid, but at the same time entertaining reflection on certain mesenteries of the show business. It is the nightmare of an artist on seeing how one of her faithful and devoted ``fans´´ takes her place little by little. All this obsession is going to disturb ;her relationship with her fiance and with her friends and it is going to take her to a sincere search of what really is essential in life. It is to emphasize Marilyn Monrroe's fleeting appearances.
The film counts on an excellent script, direction and unforgettable interpretations. Bette Davis embroiders it, Anne Baxter interprets wonderfully one of the most unforgettable ``bad women´´ of the history of the cinema (it is not surprising her nomination to the Oscar Award). The other actors also are exceptional, but for me the one who shadows the rest is and stands out is George Sanders in the role of the cynic theatre reviewer. He is the one who realizes how Eve is really from the first moment. The Oscar was deserved and they gave it to him, it might not have been otherwise.
GILDA
Ballin Mudson is the owner of a casino. Johnny Farell, is an adventurer, and knows Mudson because this one saves him from dying from the hands of a few villains in the port in Buenos Aires. Farrell turns this way into his right-hand man, lives in his house and deals with the business when he is not. Mudson returns from a trip married to Gilda, former lover of Farrell. She tries to start her relationship with Farrell.
Mudson's casino is the headquarters of the Nazi in South America. Accused of being a double agent, Mudson kills one of the Germans and flees. Farrell takes charge of the casino and marries Gilda as revenge and without corresponding to her love. One day Mudson reappears and tries to take revenge on the couple.
It was enough to Rita Hayworth to appear sheathed in a black garment, singing " Put the Blame on Mame " and to take a glove off, to mark a mythical scene in cinema. In addition, the chemistry between her and Glenn Ford is fantastic, and don’t miss when he slaps her with anger and contained desire.
